2 Chronicles 7:14
“…if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
When King Jehoshaphat faced an “impossible” situation he cried out to God… “We are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. As we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You!” 2 Chronicles 20:13. Throughout scripture God has made it clear that the keys to revival and the health of any nation is His people. As His people, we envision a 40-Day corporate movement of prayer to unify and transform the Southern Kentucky community of faith. Through repentance, forgiveness, faith, grace, peace and gratitude we will transform lives. We’re not sure what it will look at the end of the 40-Days of crying out to God but we believe He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land. Habakkuk 1:5 “Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” READ MORE
A Notable Work
It is our belief that God will work in a powerful way. We know that His Spirit will touch everyone in the region, not only those participating in our 40-Day journey. We are confident God will do something so big that we wouldn’t have believed it if God told us in advance.
If My People … Unify (John 17)
This prayer movement isn’t about religion or denominational connections. Rather it is about passionate spirituality that connects us all to God through prayer. The repentance of Israel was a corporate event. Participating churches and people should remember this is not an individualized revival. However, it is a revolt against modern self-reliant individualism. We choose to live under Kingdom principles because we believe the societal status quo is not enough. Also, we come together to pray asking God’s forgiveness for our collective sins and arrogance. We don’t ignore the beliefs that we hold as churches or individuals. Yet, we seek God’s presence as a group on behalf of the wider Christian church, our own churches, schools, and communities.
At the same time, we are reminding ourselves that we belong to a global Christian church. A global community that does not have the advantages of freedom that would allow them to have denominational differences. Each day we are praying for the persecuted Christian church in a specific nation. The forty nations on the calendar come from the World Watch List for 2019. This is a list of the 40 most persecuted nations for Christians in the world. We pray for their growth, their strength, their deliverance. We remember that our Christianity is not isolated, but part of God’s greater and global mission.
Focus: Transformation (Matthew 6:9-13)
Our focus is on God to ask for His forgiveness as He leads us into a deeper understanding of His Kingdom reality. In the Lord’s model prayer he commanded us to pray: “Your Kingdom come.” The 40-Days project has a focus on inviting God to come live with His people (2 Chron 6:41-42). We are inviting God into the “everyday” by integrating God’s scriptural promises as we seek God’s kingdom in our lives. We focus on the realities of God’s kingdom because we believe God’s reality is greater and stronger than the barriers Satan has put in our lives.
The kingdom realities focus on what the kingdom of God looks like. The focus intentionally places emphasis on God’s reality. As opposed to the barrier in our world we are trying to overcome. For example, instead of focusing on hatred, the cycle of violence, or emotional wounds instead we focus on forgiveness. While we talk about the Kingdom reality the barrier becomes clear. We will also be reading through the gospel books of Mark and Luke during the 40-Days. While the devotional may or may not focus on the reading for the day, the reading will show the day’s reality in action during the life of Christ.
(Even though the focus for each day is not always the entire chapter. We do invite you to read the entire chapter for each day. If we all do this we will have completed the 40 chapters of Mark and Luke together.)
