WEEK 6, DAY 38: The Lord Builds
Prayer led by Wayne Dickens, Western Kentucky University Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Scripture Reference: Psalm 126 & Psalm 127
Prayer
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” Oh, Lord we know these words are truth. Forgive us for building our homes and our nation on the sands of money, success, fame, education, entertainment, pleasure and all the other idols we have created. You are the only One that matters. You are our Maker and You alone hold the keys to love, joy, and peace that the whole world desperately seeks. “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Lord, we know that no army, political figure, political party, or security measures can protect us if You are not the One we look to for safety and protection. You are our God, O Lord, and we trust You.
Your word also says “it is vain to rise up early and stay up late anxiously toiling for food”. Give us, rest, Lord, as You say that You will. Rest from our anxiety and vain attempts to be in control through reliance on our feeble strength and wisdom. Forgive us for allowing all the busyness of life to crowd out an intimate walk with You. Lord, we know that there is nothing more important. We thank You for the gift of children and Lord we ask you to give us the right priorities in raising them. Forgive us, please, Father, for taking the children you have entrusted to us and sacrificing them at the altars of earthly education, athletics, music, pleasure, materialism, and really anything that is not You.
Lord, give us a real passion for our children that helps us understand that there is “no profit in gaining the world and losing our souls.” Teach us, Lord, to put first things first. May we be the generation that leaves a legacy of faith for ages to come. In the name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus we pray. Amen.
