WEEK 4, DAY 23: HONOR GOD

Scripture Reference: Luke 7:1-10

There’s a song we sing in our congregation that says, “blessings and glory, and honor, they all belong to you, thank you Jesus for blessing me”. When we recognize and acknowledge where all blessings come from, we’ll know where all honor belongs. We’ve learned to give honor where honor is due.

As we celebrate Veterans Day in the US, we’re grateful and reminded of the honorable service rendered for our blessed freedoms. While we honor our servicemen and women, let’s honor Jesus for all his many wonderful works. He’s done so many wonderful things. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; Proverbs 3:9. Our Lord deserves to be honored. To honor another is to lift and acknowledge them for who they are. May we honor our Lord in the good days and bad days.

HONOR GOD

As we honor individuals who’ve been instrumental in our lives, we give them credit for the things they’ve done and provided. And as God’s words ask, that we honor our Father and Mother, we honor God when we keep his word. As we love our neighbors as ourselves, we honor God. To honor God is to keep his word. John said in John 5:23 – “that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.” Honor is used to denote the esteem and respect we entertain for any one on account of his dignity or merit.

While everyone will not always give Jesus honor where it’s due, he’ll continue to love. Matthew 13:57 said, “And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” Even in rejection, Jesus remained honorable. Jesus has one desire and that is to bring everyone to repentance. Proverbs 22:4 – The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honor and life. When you humble yourself and honor God, God will let your life honor him.

Time to Contemplate:

  1. Do you honor God for what he’s done or for who he is?
  2. What hinders you from humbling yourself to giving God greater honor with your life?

Pray:

Dear heavenly Father, we honor you for all your mighty and wonderful works. You’ve been our provider and our protector, and we thank you Lord. We thank you for honoring and keeping your word. When we call you, you hear our prayer! When we need you, you come to our rescue! You truly are a very present help in the time of trouble, Psalm 46. I pray you’ll hear the cries of those who feel they’ve lost honor because of their sin.  And I pray you’ll help everyone to know that you forgive sin and heal the broken hearted. I pray you’ll make your presence known in our world. Thank you in advance for honoring the prayers of the righteous and healing our land. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
